Snowflake Curve

When Wilson Bentley began to study snowflakes in the late 1800s no one knew that they would become a key component to computer programming, physics, and geometry. Today scientists, mathematicians, and artists are embracing the idea of Fractals. Snowflakes are examples of fractals in nature. Fractals are patterns that are self similar within itself. The best way to understand Fractals is to actually create a fractal. Koch’s Snowflake Curve is an example of a fractal.

You will use AppleWorks Paint for this project. You will want to begin by reducing your screen size to 75% and painting your background a dark color. Next, follow the instructions from The Student Activity Sheet located below. When you are finished save your Snowflake Curve as a .jpg.
Hint: Use the paintbrush to erase the overlapping lines.
