My Name is Debbie Pope. I am the Fourth and Fifth Grade Aide.  I have enjoyed working at Gene Witt Elementary since 1997.  I love working with this interesting age. The kids are old enough to be independent little people. I have fun joking with them and being their friend. Although, they all know where my line of seriousness is.

Let me tell you a bit about me. I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am a huge Steelers Fan. I left P.A . when I was five, moved to Connecticut and lived there through my grade school years. At the tender age of eleven, my family and I came to Sarasota, Florida. I proudly attended Riverview High School...GO RAMS!

My original career was as a Bookkeeper, this is what I studied for. But life steered me to education. After having a family, I realized how much I loved kids. To stay in touch with my own children, the same summer time off and hours were a perfect fit. First, I studied and worked at a public daycare. Eventually, I had my own home daycare. When my son was in first grade I joined the Gene Witt Family.

My son, the youngest of three, recently graduated from Lakewood Ranch High School.  His name is Cory and played for the football team, and played violin in the orchestra as well. Cory is now attending State College of Florida and plans to transfer to the University of Central Florida after he earns his associates degree. He plans to major in law enforcement.  I feel like my job as a parent is complete, but I still have the pleasure to enjoy the precious age of elementary students everyday. I love my job.

I have to mention my dog Bonnie, she is the best dog in the whole wide world. Smart too! Bonnie tries to come to school with me everyday,   I try to explain to her that doggies are not allowed to attend school, unless she signs up to be a guide dog.

My husband and I enjoy boating, fishing, and go-carting with our family. We recently purchased two jet skiis, I love riding them.  But most of all we enjoy sitting around the pool, watching our four grand kids splash and play.

Well, that's enough about me, what about you? When you are at Witt please say Hi, and tell me about you!!
