The Voluntary Pre-kindergarten (VPK) is a program to prepare four-year-olds in Florida for kindergarten and build a strong foundation for their continued educational success. The VPK program will provide each child the opportunity to perform better in school and throughout life with quality programs that include high literacy standards, accountability, appropriate curricula, substantial instruction periods, manageable class sizes and qualified instructors.

VPK is open to any child who is or will be four years old by September 1 of the given school year. Parents may select from a variety of public and private child care providers. They also must choose either a 540 hour program offered during the school year, or a 300 hour program offered during the summer.
