What is our Government For and How Does it Work?

The lessons in this unit helped my students make connections between the government that exists at our school and the government of the United States. In the course of the six lessons that followed my students not only learned what government was and how it worked, but also experienced it by becoming members of the Executive Branch's Cabinet. We elected a president and Vice-president who appointed cabinet members for each role of the President of the United States's cabinet - with one difference. Our cabinet members' job descriptions were based on the function each position would serve in our classroom!
