Welcome

I teach intensive reading classes for freshmen as well as for juniors and seniors. This is my fifth year on the Bruin faculty.

During my career of more than 30 years as an educator, I have taught both middle school and high school English, reading, and journalism.

I earned a bachelor degree at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a masters degree at the University of South Florida.

In my off-campus life, I work with several community groups when I am not busy serving my beagles, Noel and Scout, treats and taking them on walks.

It provides explicit, systematic word study, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading instruction that is age- and interest-level appropriate for teens. It includes targeted instruction to help accelerate struggling students. Journeys III includes a comprehensive assessment system incorporating benchmark measures, regular assessments, technology-based assessments, and curriculum-embedded tools to monitor students and their growth.

Edge, Level B . . .

was designed as a reading intervention system for high school students. Edge is a core reading program designed for students reading below grade level. It provides focus and repetition of one reading strategy per unit with explicit and systematic instruction in vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Approximately 60% of the reading material is nonfiction to reflect the emphasis on nonfiction in state testing and most careers. The difficulty of the text increases as students move through the course.
